The Mosnel Winery in Franciacorta
A new article, published on M_use, has entered our Press Review.
Talk about the collaboration between SAIT S.r.l. of Erbusco, Franciacorta, developer of the Wineability software and the companies:
– Mosnel, renowned winery in Franciacorta;
– Avery Dennison, producer of RFID tags;
– San Faustino Label, printer of labels.
Can wine tradition and technological innovation meet and collaborate?
We answer this question by talking about the case of Mosnel, a winery that has stood the test of time since 1836 thanks to its long history and ancient winemaking practices that intertwine with the modernity of innovative solutions to address the complexities of authenticity, traceability and consumer engagement.
At the heart of this shift is Wineability, a custom software developed by SAIT that can efficiently extract and process information collected by RFID technology. This technology comes in the form of discrete tags on the bottle that allow wineries to overcome the challenges of tracking and authenticating wine, without ruining the aesthetics of the packaging. With RFID technology, wineries can monitor the journey of each bottle from the vineyard to the consumer, even tracking bottles in unauthorized markets and creating disruption to distribution. This achieves a level of control over distribution channels that was previously unattainable and safeguards the reputation of the brand, simply by scanning the QR code.
But Wineability is much more than a simple QR code! In fact, it is able to combine the code with the unique ID of a UHF (ultra-high frequency) tag, to offer a certificate of authenticity for each bottle of wine and, thanks to the SAIT reading tunnel, it can read multiple RFId tags simultaneously, eliminating the need to read each individual bottle and speeding up the packaging process, ensuring precise inventory management and allowing wineries to identify which bottle is in which box and even associate each bottle with its customer. This makes operations much simpler and more streamlined and ensures a perfect experience for the customer and the brand.
And the benefits don’t end there: Mosnel, which cares about the sustainability of its packaging, uses this technology to educate customers: the QR code is linked to a dedicated page on their website that contains important information about how to properly dispose of the packaging, as required by law.
Furthermore, always in compliance with the recent European regulation 2021/2117 which came into force at the end of 2023, regarding the nutritional contents of labels, Wineability’s QR and RFId solutions facilitate and make flexible the management of the content of the labels themselves which, unlike static ones, can be modified and updated as needed, allowing wineries to quickly adapt to variations in production volumes or to provide personalized information for each bottle.
Wineability, therefore, can not only solve the problems of traceability and authenticity, it also helps to fulfill legislative obligations.
Personalized experience for the end consumer.
If a customer scans a QR code, the system identifies their location and directs them to a web page, in their local language, that contains all the additional information that is not present on the bottle. This feature also improves accessibility for the visually impaired.
The case of Mosnel is a great example of how technology can harmoniously integrate with tradition, thanks to an innovative leap forward that marks a new chapter in the history of winemaking, in which each bottle literally tells its own unique journey, from the vineyard to the glass. The future of wineries sees them not only as custodians of ancient practices, but also ready to adopt emerging technologies.
