Wineability is a product of SAIT, an Information & Communication Technology company located at Erbusco, in the heart of Franciacorta. Since 1997, SAIT has been active in software development, automatic identification and wireless telecommunications offering high-quality technology solutions to logistics, retail, manufacturing and fashion.

Traceability as production chain efficiency. Agriculture 4.0 subsidies and tax credits

Wineability simplifies and speeds up warehouse operations such as shipping management and enables real-time product stock tracking. It makes the winery more digital, modern and sustainable and it can benefit from the 4.0 Agriculture subsidies and tax credits..
During the phase of dressing the bottles, they are given a unique encrypted identification number, an ID written in a QR code on the back label, generated in accordance with the rules of the destination market. This code makes every bottle of wine traceable.

A package label is then printed for each box with various items of information on the bottles it contains: the type of wine, production batch, traceability code, etc. In its turn, during the palletizing phase, the system can print unique pallet labels that refer to the bottles and boxes on the pallet.

It is vital for wineries producing high-end valuable wines, for those who buy fine wines as an investment or for those who sell them on exclusive circuits to be able to guarantee the authenticity of the precious bottle and its value, the exclusivity of the distribution network, as well as to defend themselves against counterfeiting, from irresponsible retail outlets and grey markets. 

There is a need for reliable and secure data, traceability, blockchain technology and digital certificates. It makes the bottle unique by serializing it with a unique code, tracking its movements and changes of ownership, turning this information into product value.

For many players in the world of wine it is of fundamental importance to know the distribution network precisely; from storage in the winery to shipping, multimodal transport, proper storage of bottles along the way and at the place where they reach the consumer. All this information is precious and contributes to the growth of product and brand value.

It has always been difficult, however, because of the complexity of the market, to have a clear understanding of all the links in the chain and to keep track of all the steps.

Today, with Wineability, it is possible to recognize rewards and discounts for all the subjects in the supply chain who participate in the smooth operation of this virtuous and transparent system, be they forwarding agents, importers, distributors, restaurateurs, merchants or end customers.

Nurturing consumer relationships 

Consumers are increasingly more attentive to their health and the environment, so they are demanding more and more information about products. They want transparency about the production processes and their environmental impact. They are also looking for greater engagement with their trusted brands and are choosing to enjoy compelling multimedia content.

Legislation – particularly European legislation, but also that of importing countries – is also moving toward more and more informational labels (smart labels and green labels).

Wineability offers the right technologies to nurture the relationship with the end consumer through the independent management of multimedia informational content for retention, storytelling and consumer engagement.

Some of these features are accessible directly through a smartphone browser, while others are activated by using a specific APP.

HOW IT WORKS

The encrypted unique ID represents the traceability code for each bottle of wine and is given during the dressing phase. The system manages the serialization process based on the specifications of the customer’s bottling and packaging process and system. Bottle preparation depends on the target market. The label is generated in accordance with the rules of the export market.

For a better interface, our choice is to apply the unique ID to the bottle on the back label where the traceability code can be printed very small so that it is not easily visible.

Otherwise, an RFID tag (UHF, NFC) can be placed under the back label. These methods can help prevent counterfeiting.

For each box (containing 1, 3, 6 or 12 bottles), a package label is printed with various items of information on the bottles: type of wine, production batch and traceability code (as a serial number, barcode, QR code or RFID tag). During the palletizing phase the system can print unique pallet labels that refer to the bottles
and boxes on the pallet.

With the help of the advanced traceability system, it is possible in real time to verify the location and stock of products in the winery by means of simple search masks that can be used on any device with a web browser such as PCs, notebooks, tablets, and smartphones.

The system is based on automatic identification and unique coding of the product enables traceability throughout the supply chain. The tracking function facilitates verification of the distribution channel, which functions as a deterrent to the grey market.
